Technical Commercial Manager, Life Science Technologies (entry level)

LOCATION: West Deptford, NJ

The Life Science Technologies (LST) business unit of Johnson Matthey s New Market Sector focuses exclusively on serving the pharmaceutical, agrochemical and fine chemical markets. Technologies include homogeneous catalysis for cross coupling, achiral and chiral transformations as well as heterogeneous and enzymatic catalysis for organic and fine chemical synthesis.

The LST Business has an exciting opportunity for entry level Technical Commercial Manager to join our commercial team and focus on growing LST business. We are looking for an independent, solutions driven individual who can utilize their technical background to add value and drive new business growth.

Key responsibilities:

  • The incumbent is expected to be a self-motivated technical sales specialist combining entrepreneurial excellence with technical skills to maximise business growth.

  • Responsible for a geographical sales territory including achievement of planned revenue, account development for all products and services manufactured by the LST business unit.

  • Create strong, collaborative relationships with customers, networking with their technical, operations and purchasing organizations. Use voice of customer to refine and strengthen business development plans.

  • Identifies and interprets customers requirements, shaping these requirements to fit the business unit s capabilities and communicates these to customers.

  • Uses market and competitor intelligence in the creation and refinement of business development plans.

  • Calls on all organizational levels and functional areas, using Strategic Selling techniques within assigned account which influence purchasing decisions

  • Responsible for management of all sales activities and regular customer visits within the sales territory.

  • Responsible for identifying and developing new accounts within the sales territory.

  • Works closely with business unit R & D group as a consultant to clients in technical matters.

  • Protects Johnson Matthey s IP through CDA and various legal document initiations.

  • Submits to business unit management competitive market information and provides guidance relating to potential business acquisitions.

  • Submits written reports (e. g. visit and monthly reports) to commercial management and to appropriate business unit personnel. Organizes territory sales forecasts.

  • Attends trade/technical shows and gives technical presentations to customers.

Are you the ideal candidate?


  • Bachelor s Degree in a technical field such as (Organic) Chemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering required.

  • Master s Degree and PhD in relevant field is desired but not essential.

  • Previous industry experience in a similar commercial role will be advantageous but is not essential

  • You will be a highly motivated individual with excellent communication, organisation and time management skills.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
